The evening visit....
Saturday morning visit from Sylvia

Friday morning-and a new gift for them all!
My morning text from my wonderful petsitter, Sylvia read as follows: the boys are settling in for a post breakfast snooze on their individual Snoozy Sleepers. They seem to like their new Snoozy Sleepers-supposedly Kodak fell asleep immediately, and started snoring! They aren't going to want boring mom back! I'm so glad they are happy and doing well! They are being taken care of by a wonderful person!

Thursday morning visit!
The Boys were happy to see Sylvia last night
I received a text message from my pet sitter last night-my daily update on the boys! Kodak was getting a special treat to coax him into eating before his insulin-wild salmon mixed with dry food. Lucky boy! And then they all went to the couch to wait for their pet time! Spoiled little boys! I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Another Day another shot and dollar....
A note to the person who left the anonymous comment last nite-thanks-but I know Kodak will live longer than 1 year and it's ok if the pet insurance doesn't help after that! I'd pay it no matter what! And I believe ever bit counts! He only has a lifetime limit of $1500 anyway for this-but once again every little bit counts! Especially right now with the WGA strike at the holidays-I'm out of work so in the true sense every little bit counts!

Kodak is feeling the shots all of a sudden
Ouch..
Must go to the pharmacy and pick up Winton's prescription. Good thing they can now give cats the generic. i remember when I was paying $80 for his medication-I always wanted to claim it under my health insurance. He's family-why cant i? ha. But now that he has the generic it's about half the price.
Last day the vet is open before I leave for tennessee. I must go get more Royal Canin LP pouches for my Kodak-still the only food he'll eat. But Perf likes the Wysong cans, Winton wont touch it but loves his K/D and Neo-it's like their bodies know that the food they like is good for them-really odd! I'm going to miss my boys! They always are on my bed in the morning to wake me up when my alarm goes off and then it's a mass congregation in the bathroom-that's baby and mommy time.

Morning stuff and a call from the vet last nite
My vet called last night about Winton's blood pressure-much better to hear things from the vet than the vet tech-he didn't give me everything I wanted to hear. Winton's blood pressure was between 166 and 170. She would like it down below 160 since he's taking 1/4 tablet of Amlodipine 2x a day. Mind you it's gone down from 200 so we're on the right track. She wants to re-check his blood pressure in 6-8 weeks. About the same time Kodak goes back for his re-check as well. Fun times in this household in January and February!

Zilla Update-from yesterdays post
Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!
They wanted fed earlier today
It was 8:15 and they were all tired of me sleeping! They wanted fed! I realized I had forgotten to fill the bowls up last nite with a bit of dry after feeding them their canned food before bed. Kodak was ready for his food and his insulin! He gobbled up his Royal Canin-I'm thrilled he's eating canned food!!! never thought he would! Perf loves the Wysong Chicken gourmet and Winton-thank goodness loves his renal food. I bought him Hi-Tor Neo for a bit of a change of pace since he's only been eating the K/D lately. I'm just thrilled they are all eating!!!
I'm still waiting to hear back from the vet about Winton BP. I was hoping to get a call yesterday but didn't-must call today.
I went to the local shelter yesterday, The harbor shelter in Los Angeles, to donate some canned cat food that my cats aren't eating anymore-and yes I had to go in and see the dogs and cats. When I went into the cat room I saw this beautiful girl named ZILLA - ID#A901160. She's 10 years old and has been in the shelter since the 15th September! She is a beautiful cat-incredibly loving! And was taken to the shelter because her owners were moving! That breaks my heart! She rubbed up against me for 20 minutes. What a love bug! I so want to find her a home! I cant imagine having my pets for 10 years and then giving them up!!! If you are interested in Zilla call the shelter immediately Harbor Animal Care and Control Center at (888) 452-7381 and give them her ID# A901160. You can also see her picture on the website-she's amazing!!!

Winton's blood pressure
Winton and I just got back from the vet where he had his blood pressure taken. It's still high but surprisingly lower than it was the last time he had it taken. Today it averaged out to 172. The last time he had it taken it hovered around 200. So we are waiting for the vet to view his chart and then decide how she wants to proceed with his blood pressure medication.....after the vet. I stopped the car and let Winton go into the back and look out the window-he never gets to go in the car-and my car had lots of windows and lots for him to see.
Ha!
We are heading to the vet today to get Winton's blood pressure taken. I realized he hadn't had it taken in about a year so I'm dashing in to get it down before I leave town for christmas.

The new food
I think I've found food for both CRF and Diabetes!!
Winton goes to the vet tomorrow to get his blood pressure checked-it's always a joy...he's not a big fan of the vet and it never fails his blood pressure is elevated when he's there!

Rest time while the dog is in her crate....
Sometimes....
This morning Winton just could not settle down. He cried and everytime I called his name the dog jumped off the bed to go hunt him down....sometimes the animals drive me nuts! I wouldn't change it for the world but AAAHHH!

They wont leave the crate!
Kodak and Perf will not leave the dog's new crate...well they are out now because the dog is in getting acclimated to "crate life" since she'll be going on a flight soon...and the cats will be in the house without the dog in the VERY capable hands of my amazing pet sitter!!! I was going to drive cross country with all of them but it ended up being more expensive to drive than to fly! And the boys will be very happy by themselves!
I just bought a new chair at a garage sale for my bedroom-I'm sure it will turn into the cat chair!!

The cats like the dogs new crate and other stuff....
Yes it seems Kodak and 3 Perf like the dogs new travel crate better than the dog does! It's got a nice comfy warm pad and they are in there snuggled up. It's cave like so they like it.
I'm still in a food dilemma....I was in the middle of hunting down levels of carbs and phosphorus the other day when I was called into work...I must continue to find food that I can feed all of my cats. And I need to buy it so my pet sitter has food over the holidays!
I found out today that the insulin syringes for Kodak are cheapest at my vet! Amazing! I thought I'd be able to find them cheaper online but my vet scores big! I get 100 Ulticare 1/2cc 29 gauge x 1/2" u-40 syringes for $20 from my vet and there aren't shipping fees! And the insulin seems to be cheap thru my vet as well....no shipping charges!
I may ask my vet why kodak is on the PZI Vet insulin. It cost so much, over $100-but lasts a very long time....but there is cheaper insulin out there-just wondering if the PZI is better...does anyone know?

Having Two cats with different Diseases is a right PAIN!
A CRF cat should be on a low Phosphorus diet, whereas a diabetic cat:
Feed your cat wet food.
Feeding your cat non-dry cat food is the best thing you can do for your cat, diabetic or not. A cat is an "obligate carnivore." That means the physiology and anatomy of the cat are suited to eating a high protein, meat diet. Dry food, even prescription diabetic food, just cannot meet this requirement.
A low-carbohydrate, high protein, wet diet has been associated with remission (disappearance of symptoms) of diabetes in cats. You can feed your cat a raw or cooked diet that you make yourself or there are many excellent high protein canned foods available. As a cost-conscious compromise, you can feed readily available low-cost canned foods, such as certain varieties of Fancy Feast.
Do your cat a favor and feed her protein.
So what to buy that wont harm both of them?????
Levels are good
On another note...Kodak has a canned or pouch food he will eat!!! Hoooray! It's the Roayl Canin Renal LP. I'm going to check all the protein, phosphorus etc levels on it and see if it's ok for a diabetic cat to eat-but so far it's the only canned food he has shown any interest in. I even went out and bought a bunch of Fancy Feast-thinking maybe he'd be drawn to the "kitty junk food" NO! I'll check the levels of the food and post in a bit.

Kodak's blood tests
Joined the Catster Diabetic group
had a great list of some canned foods that have No wheat gluten in them and are below 10% carbs so off I go today! He goes into the vet at 12:20 to get his levels checked....
I also joined the CRF group on Catster. I've been dealing with CRF for much longer but now that I have a CRF cat and a diabetic cat I need to make sure each are getting the appropriate foods! Check out this website too: http://www.felinecrf.com/index.htm

BRRRR...it's cold here in southern california!!!
BRRR the boys are really noticing the chilly damp weather we are having here in sunny southern cal...it's been rainy and cold-I love it but it's given me curled up cats! All they want to do is sleep and keep warm...they are so cute! And they are great warmers!
You know what I've noticed-Kodak's arthritis has improved-at least he seems to be walking better and I haven't been giving him his glucosamine as much. I'm wondering if the insulin or his improved sugar levels are making his arthritis more manageable!???

ASPCA Check arrived today
Amount paid by insurance $144.62
Pet Owner's Responsibility $166.91
All in all I would say it's worth it so far! And the check came much quicker than if I were to file a claim for myself!

Perf's nite!
Today I went and bought food for the boys: DM for Kodak and his diabetes, Winton got canned K/D and the pouches of Royal Canin renal. I checked to see if they had Royal Canin pouches for diabetes-but it seems they don't! Bummer because Kodak really liked the renal pouches! I really want him to eat more canned food but what a stubborn little cat he is!
Kodak goes to the vet today at 4pm to get his glucose and fructose checked.

ASPCA refund?
All Quiet on the Western Front....
Kodak has a new hiding place! It's in the closet in a laundry basket of old clothes that I've kept for sentimental reasons! He probably found this place because of the DOG! Yes everytime I take his insulin out of the refrigerator and start to roll it, it hits my ring and makes a "clink" sound-it's very rhythmic! Because I have a cattle dog-yes VERY SMART-she now knows that this means the cat gets a shot. So she has taken it upon herself to find Kodak-it is her job to find him. He was hiding under the bed when he heard the dog coming but he smartened up...he found the laundry basket!
The boys were really playing the other night. I bought a few more toys and so did my pet sitter-she loves to baby the boys! Well they were batting around the toys the other night. It was wonderful to see. They stopped playing when the dog came into the house because she always wanted to get in there!
Perf LOVES balls-well unfortunately so does the dog.....so the only time he can play is when I put a ball on my bed and give him "kitty play time"....the dog hates being left out!
It's cold here in California right now-the boys are hunkered down on warm wool blankets! They love to snuggle at night when I'm on the couch!
