Welcome Puck
PUCK.
he is a 12yo Male Russian blue who was surrendered to the east valley Shelter by his owners. He was on the Red List, which means he had 49 hours to get out or he would be euthanized.
I love Russian Blues and just couldnt stand the thought of him being killed, so he is now a family member.
He has bad teeth-actually hardly any teeth, but he loves his soft food and he is in a wonderful home with food and loads of comfy beds!

Lots of change...
Our lives have really been thrown upside down since Mom started work at the end of July! We had to move out of the condo because the HOA said she had too many dogs! They wanted mom to get rid of one of them. Now don't get us wrong sometimes those dogs get on our nerve, but we would never want mom to get rid of them! We heard mom her mutter "Over my dead effing body!"....So we all moved out of the condo And moved into my mom's brudders house and she started looking for a house!
Mom has found a house for us!! Mom thinks we move in on October 18th or 19th. We have had fun living at our uncles house and spending time with grandpa but we are really looking forward to having a place that is our own again!! Our own windows to look out!!

Brittany the calico needs surgery...she needs our help
Hello all, furmom, penny, here.
I decided to hijack the girls' blog for a post about another girl kitty, Brittany.
I have set up a chip-in to help; Brittany's Chip-in but here is the entire story!
I have set up this chip in for Sherry, who is the owner of 8yo Brittany a spayed calico.
I decided to hijack the girls' blog for a post about another girl kitty, Brittany.
I have set up a chip-in to help; Brittany's Chip-in but here is the entire story!
I have set up this chip in for Sherry, who is the owner of 8yo Brittany a spayed calico.
I met Sherry on Friday at the Harbor Animal Shelter. She was sitting talking/crying to the shelter supervisor when i walked in. I initially didn't get involved until I was asked if I knew of any cat rescues that could help Sherry with her cat, Brittany. So i sat and listened...
Sherry has had Brittany since she was a kitten, 8 years. She LOVES this girl and wants to do everything she can for her BUT she is a low income single mom of 2 kids and lives check to check. She is on subsidized living.
I listened to Sherry's story, Brittany was screaming in the bathroom, peeing blood and Sherry knew she was in pain. So she brought her to the Harbor Animal Shelter hoping they could help-they don't do that. So she was going to have the shelter euthanize her because she couldn't afford to take her to her vet, Affordable Animal Clinic in Torrance, California ( http://www.affordableanimalclinic.com/ )
I couldn't stand hearing this!!! Brittany had to be given a chance!!! So I said I would help. I told her to take Brittany to Affordable and that I would pay for the exam and if she needed anything else-for them to call me.
Sherry took Brittany right to the vet!!! The vet called me about an hour later to tell me what brittany needed. She needed to be admitted, given fluids, bloodwork done, xrays etc..... and I said OK. I had super bowl winnings that were stashed away in a jar for "an emergency" and i felt this was the time to dig into the jar! brittany was going to get care!!
The next day, the vet called me and said Sherry wanted to talk to me. She said the vet had diagnosed Brittany-she had Kidney stones and crystals and needed surgery. They quoted her $1500 for the surgery. Sherry was once again in tears and said there was no way she could pay this and that she was going to take Brittany back to the Harbor Animal Shelter to be PTS because 1) she couldn't afford the euthanasia fee at Affordable ($275) and 2) she CAN NOT pay $1500 for surgery.
I told her to wait-that we could figure something out!!! She said the vet wanted her to have antibiotics but that she only had $25 and the antibiotics were $35. I said get the antibiotics, I'll pay the $10 difference. Get her the medications-it will buy her some time so that all of this can be figured out.
I then posted a status update on Facebook asking for any help. I received so much help! I was given links to a number of organizations that help people with medical expenses for their animals. I sent ALL of this information to Sherry. And told her to get to her friends computer and fill out as many as she could!
I just talked to Sherry today! She filled out 4 online applications for financial assistance, she has heard back from one already-they do not have the funds to help. She is calling a few today, because that is a requirement. But she is still no closer to getting funds for Brittany's surgery.
This is where I stepped in.
I can't imagine having a beloved pet and NOT being able to afford medical care-and the only option being to put your beloved pet to sleep at the local shelter. Absolutely horrifying!!! Everyone deserves the love of an animal!!!
I go to the Harbor Animal Shelter so much and watch these heartless uncaring people come in and dump their animals without a care in the world! It makes me sick! Then I meet a woman who adores her cat but can't afford to help her!!! She deserves to be helped!!
I'm asking that 1500 people donate just $1!!! JUST $1 is all I ask. Please share this with your friends! JUST $1...can you spare a dollar to help Brittany live????
If the $1500 is collected, she will go back to Affordable for the surgery-Sherry really liked the doctor that she saw the second day. I have also contacted Dr Kenneth Dale Johns to see what he might charge for Kidney stone surgery at his vet clinic in Santa Monica, CA (http://www.jonesanimalhospital.com/)
That about sums it up. Brittany is on antibiotics but we need to raise funds fast so that she isn't in any pain!
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!!!
Thank you so very much!!!

We have an "interloper"
Mom came into the house yesterday with a carrier that had "someone" in it......we could smell him...but didnt get to meet him.
Mom told us that he is just a foster! He was an owner surrender at the shelter where mommy takes pictures of the animals in need of new homes. And his picture went all around and a super nice cat lady in colorado wanted to adopt him. So mommy went down to "adopt" him (adoption fees for adult cats right now is only $9)...and she brought him home.
He's living in our human brudders room...so we can smell him thru the door but thats it.
Mom took him to our vet today for his free shelter exam. he's healthy and his FeLV/FIV test is negative, so mom says if we are fostering him for a longer period we might get to meet him face to face. We met him briefly, while he was in his crate, then he went back into his room.
I (Blossom) hissed at him while he was in his crate and he hissed back just once...but that was all. Mom put him back into his room and now we dont care!!
We think he's ok...

Hello all...it's been awhile, I've been a bit of a slacker secretary, but since I am finished with my season of Glee, I'm hoping to update the girls' blog a little bit more frequently!!
I did want to share something with everyone, if there are still people that read this! Before my sweet 3 perf went to the rainbow Bridge because of horrible Cancer, he starred in a short film called "Mrs henderson's cat"...yes he was Mrs Henderson's cat!!! When the director, Will (who actually works with me) asked if my orange tabby, 3 perf, could come and film for a few hours at his house, I said why not...but I told him, he can be quite a pill and very unpredictable so i have no idea how he might do... Wills aid no problem, that i was the only person he knew who had an orange tabby. So Perfy and I went to Wills house and perfy made his acing debut!!!
I just want everyone to know that my perfy was absolutely wonderful!! He was great, acted great and wasnt a pill!!! Knowing that he was sick and that I had limited time with him, made this such a fun moment!! Yes I was a stage mom!!!
The film is finished and will be coming out soon. They just need to complete some post productions items and then i will get to see my boy on the screen. here is the link to the website! If you can donate to help get the short film finished, please donate.
Thanks so much!!

Rest in Peace my sweet boy
I received official information on Friday that the mass in his kidneys, stomach and lymph nodes was lymphoma. He had been having difficulty eating since coming back from the pet emergency. He was showing signs of nausea which seemed to get worse and worse. I picked up an appetite stimulant, but was told it only works in 50-70% of cats. I tried. But I had already told myself that I was NOT going to put my boy thru anything if he was in discomfort or pain!
Last night, kodak slept by my head. My hand was under his paw all night long! I would wake up periodically and he'd be up with his eyes open, unusual for him.
This morning he ate a little bit then came to sit in my lap but then the rest of the day he appeared to be uncomfortable. He wouldn't close his eyes nor put his head down and he didn't want to sit in my lap. He would sniff his food but didn't eat anything.
It was time..... I didn't want him to be in any pain or discomfort! He has been my rock, been there for me thru a divorce, numerous break-ups and has traveled throughout the country with me while I was working! He has been with me longer than my ex husband! I had to be there for him tonight!
He was in the comfort of his home and my bed on a warm blankie when he went to the Rainbow Bridge. I couldn't stop crying but I knew deep in my heart I was doing the best thing for him!
Kodak, I will miss you so much! I will miss your thump walk, I will miss you sleeping on my pillow, I will miss you pawing at my leg so that you can sit in my lap, I'll miss seeing you sunning yourself on the balcony. I will miss my rock!!!
I love you sweet boy! I will NEVER forget you! I hope you are feeling better now. I never wanted you to suffer!
Rest in Peace my sweet boy! I hope Winton greeted you! I will see you again! But you will always be a part of my heart!
I love you Kodak. You have left a paw print on my heart that will never go away!

Kodak is home but the results of his ultrasound are not good
Kodak was released from the pet emergency on Monday around 10am and he was transferred to my vet. He was released around 5pm stable and with new insulin requirements of 1 unit one time a day.
On Wednesday kodak had his ultrasound. I talked to my vet around 5pm last nite and the news is not good. The ultrasound shows results that are highly suspicious for cancer, lymphoma.
Kodak has a mass in his stomach, in one of his kidneys and his lymph nodes are enlarged. The ultrasound doctor aspirated his kidney and I will get those results by Friday but I know it's lymphoma. He has lost 2 pounds in 2 months an had actually lost a few ounces from Monday.
My boy is 15.5 years old. He's diabetic and now has cancer. He has been with my longer than I was married! He has always been a part of my life since living in California. He sleeps by my head and is the most amazing cat I have ever had! He has been there for me through all the bad times and good times! And now I have to take care of him.
I have been crying since yesterday! I went home last nite, drank wine, cried and snuggled with Kodak.
I love my boy, Kodak. I will do anything I can for him now!

Kodak had a hypoglycemic incident yesterday....
Mom here, yesterday around 1pm, kodak was lying on one of the kitty beds when he started to vomit. Unlike every other time, he was vomiting while laying on his side- I knew immediately something was up. I righted him so that he wouldnt choke and then stood him up to see how he was-he immediately was wobbly and disoriented and fell into a chair. I didnt panic, ok maybe I did just a bit, but I knew what i had to do. I grabbed him up and went to the kitchen to rub karo syrup on his gums. And jumped in the car to the vet!
They took him back immediately to check his vital which were normal. This was 1 pm. Now I went to my normal vet not the pet emergency. Unfortunately saturdays are super busy. And since I came in as an "urgent care patient" we had to wait for the first available doctor. Well, I wanted my vet since she was working yesterday! There was one urgent care patient ahead of us..so we waited.
Around 2:30pm, Kodak started acting odd again. It was very subtle but I know his quirks, and this wasnt one of them! He started licking the blanket and sniffing it with his head going back and forth. I immediately knew something was wrong, so I put him down on the ground and he fell over right away. I tried again and he couldnt stand-so I took him up to the desk and told him he had to go back to see a nurse!
Thats when he had a bowl movement and they checked his blood glucose, which was LOW at 29. He stayed in the back being watched while I waited and waited. My vet closes at 4pm, so at 4pm I was finally shown a room. The nurse was inputing all the information i had into the computer when my vet walked down the hall-she saw me and did a double take and came in the room. She asked who i was here with and I said Kodak. Then she asked the nurse what was wrong with kodak-she said blood glucose of 29. My wonderful vet said- "we can fix this!" "Don't worry!" And then she said do you want a first available vet or me, and I said her, since she knows his history! She checked his gums and then went off to her last appointment. We were alone in the room again and my poor boy pooped yet another time while he was lying on his side. He cried just a little bit before he did it.
When he was finally seen by my vet, he was admitted and immediately put on IV fluids with dextrose. She ran a CBC and other blood work. his kidney numbers were fine, actually his blood work looked great except that he is anemic. She also took a urine sample, which we get back today!
She gave me the option of him staying there and only having a person come into see him in the morning and evening (they are closed on sundays) or transferring him to the pet emergency where he would get 24 hour care/ I chose to transfer him.
So once he got his fluids and began to become a little more alert, I drove him to the pet emergency for the transfer. They checked him and then I talked to the vet. She gave me an estimate of the services a middle point and a high end (the high end was $1750) and I paid a deposit of $1100 and left my boy in their capable hands!
I called this morning to check on him. his blood glucose is up and he was given 1 unit of insulin (down from the 2 units he had been getting). He's lost 2 lbs since June, so my vet thinks that might be a contributing factor to his hypoglycemic incident yesterday! Of course the underlying question now is WHY has he lost 2 lbs since June??
He was alert this morning and showing interest in food! I will drop some of his food off with them and also go visit him during "visiting hours" and then talk to the vet later today to see if he can come home today or if he stays until tomorrow morning. She said ideally, she'd like to keep him until tomorrow morning.
So that is where it stands right now.My 15 year old boy is stable right now. He is scheduled for an ultrasound on Wednesday....I'm hoping they see nothing!! Please let this just been an incident and let the weight loss be from a urinary infection or the anemia!!

Perfy
My Perfy isn't acting normal. There are subtle differences but I notice them. He still takes his pred and his green tea extract and his B-12 injections every month but I fear his "possible" GI Lymphoma might be taking hold! For those of you who can't remember, he had an ultrasound which "showed signs" of GI Lymphoma but without a biopsy we couldn't officially confirm the diagnosis! Perfy is NOT good at the vet! He stresses so much! He loses his hair, attacks, works himself into a psycho cat etc when he goes to the vet- so I made the decision to not put him thru anything that would do that to him!
So I do what I can for him!
He will get anything he wants!
