Kodak LOVES to drink water out of the sink...loves it! Good thing mom and our petsitter know this! He'll drink out of the kitty water fountain as well, but boy when he hears water running he races for it!! Yes, mom keeps tabs on if he's more thirsty than normal since he's diabetic....

We've had rain and we know alot of you have had snow-stay warm and dry!

4 Stolen Dogs in Long Beach (Bellflower) California-Please spread the word!

Terrible news. Kristina Rickard's (Dream Hi Akitas) van was stolen while it was parked last night at the hotel in Long Beach, CA. They don't know when it was stolen, but it was gone this morning (11/30/10). It has Trace (Top 5 Akita) and a young female Akita, and two corgis in it. Please cross post this to every list you are on and get the news out. Anyone in the Southern California area, please notify your vets office and local animal control in case the dogs are found, turned loose or taken to a vet. http://www.akitasdreamhi.com shows a photos of Trace, I don't have info on other dogs.

If anyone knows how to get this on the local news, MSN, etc. it would be a great help. Tom Rickard is on his way to Long Beach right now, and Lori is at home manning the phones, and Nener (Kristina) and David have Tamera Houser driving to hotel right now, so they will have help and wheels. Nener's cell phone is: 530-351-2412--please do not call to talk, but only if information is found or you have amazing suggestion--please text if possible. E-mail:dreamhi@c-zone.net . The police have already come to take a statement and hopefully they will be a great help.

2006 White Chevy Express Cargo Van, California license 8D20252, with a big black box on the back and three dog stickers on the back windows. If anyone was to see this van on the side of the road or parking lot, please report asap and check on the dogs. Hopefully, they will be found inside.

my belated purrday

Mom has been so busy with "work" that she forgot to tell all my friends that it was my purrday in august! I am now 12 years old! Mom doesn't know my exact purrday since I'm a rescue- so she celebrates it during the month of august!!

I'm being a good boy- I take my green tea extract everyday and my pred every other day! I have mainly good days- I've had a few days when i've vomitted- mom has been very concerned but I have bounced back! The good thing- I love my food!!

not a good day yesterday

Perfy had a bad day yesterday! Didn't eat, slept and had 2 projectile vomit attacks. Mom was in tears. She was giving him water thru a syringe and she almost took him to the pet emergency- but around 9pm he "rallied".... He was walking around, he drank water and moved to "his sleeping spot" on moms bed and purred. Today he is acting a bit better. He got up and ate a little bit of food. He's now back on mom's bed. Mom is keeping both eyes on him! Paws crossed is was just a bad day!

Success of sorts

Mom wants to thank you all for your ideas! Perfy seems ok taking the Pred pill- but the problems have been with the green tea extract. Mom had originally bought the capsules- but Perfy wouldn't eat his food with it mixed in, which is why she bought the pills.

Yesterday, we got a treat..... TUNA! Mom doesn't really like giving us TUNA but she was at her wits end with stupid green tea extract pills! So she smashed up a pill and mixed it in with the tuna.

Now it wast a complete success- he definitely noticed something different with his TUNA. He first started licking the juice and not eating the meat. But then he started eating the TUNA that was laced with green tea extract! He was eating it!!!

Mom being silly wih her camera phone, was snapping pictures of Perfy eating! Moms are silly!!

She's going to see if he'll eat TUNA again today- shesais she's going to wait until he's super hungry!!

So that is the update as of now. Mom is still going to get a pill shooter- even though she's good at giving pills- she just doesn't want Perfy to go thru any unnecessary stress!!

Thanks for all the help!!

not getting any easier

**Perf's Mom here**

His pill taking and his reaction to his pills is getting worse! He's now starting to foam at the mouth after every pill and gags many times. I'm having to wrap him in a towel so that I don't get deep scratches or puncture wounds from him- he HATES it that much! And then he spends about an hour flicking his tail in anger!

I was hoping it wouldn't get like this! If only he tolerated pills! If only I could hide the green tea extract in his food- but he smells it! He would still have to take his steroid by pill but at least then it would only be one pill every other day.

He's losing fur on his neck from stress. And everytime I give him a pill he loses more fur.

It just doesn't seem fair to him! I'm telling him I'm trying to save his life- but he doesn't know why I'm doing this to him!

My poor Perfy! I'm sorry! I'm sorry I can't find a better way to make you feel better! I'm trying so hard and want to help you but I don't want to cause you anymore stress than you already have!

I'm sorry if you think I'm a bad Mom! I'm not! I would do anything for my furbabies!

I love you Perfy! I'll keep trying to different ways to give you your meds!

How To Stop a Siamese from crying at 4:30am every morning!

How? Why?

Mom is a little exhausted! Skye, the newest addition and mom's first Siamese since she was 6 or 7 years old, cries every morning at 4:30am. It's like mom's alarm clock- except she will not get up that early! The rest of us know that when mom's alarm goes off that it's our time but Skye doesn't or hasn't figured that out! Mom will go grab her and snuggles with her in bed and she stops.. But she's wondering if any other Siamese owners have any ideas. Mom knows cats- she thinks she's hungry or she could have an upset tummy like Winton used to (he would get pepcid ac at night) but she's also wondering if it's a Siamese "thing"... Please help our mom!

check

Meow.. Mom is a slacker with our blog! Kodak went to the vet this week to get his fructosamine level checked. It was "high normal" so he's still on 2 1/2 units of insulin twice a day. But mom is going to watch him- he's been thirsty lately but his numbers are ok.

Mom refilled Perf's prescriptionfor prednisolone. He's on one tablet every 24-48hrs. He's still taking his green tea extract- but he's gotten wise to it! He doesn't like gettig pills at all! If the pill doesn't go in the exact center of his throat he starts to drool and his gag reflex kicks in. Mom won't give up! He's still getting his ES-Clear once a day and food whenever he wants! Mom thinks he may have lost more weight- but she doesn't know for sure since she doesn't have a scale!

As for us, the girls, we rock and are racing all over the house while the boys sleep! We are young, we are strong, we are the girls!

an update of sorts

An update from Perf's mom:

Well, Perfy is not a big fan of his medicine! He's on his prednisolone one time a day as well as 50mg of green tea extract, which i found in tablet form! I have to break the pill into quarters because he foams at the mouth if the pill isn't put into his throat in the complete center. He's supposed to have fish oil as well everyday- but he refuses his food if I "hide" it in his smelly fish stinky goodness and gags if I give it to him thru a syringe. So we've put that on hold for now.

He has "tolerated" the ES-Clear once a day. He gets .5ml a day and could get more but he tries to claw his way from the dropper! Good thing I love my furbabies!

As you can see, he's not the best patient but I'll keep at it! He's eating more and he girls have stopped picking on him! So i think he's feeling better!

He still sleeps on the pillow next to mine on my bed. It's such a comfort to have him there!

Thank you so much fortour amazing words! He had a few bad days this week with horrible diahrea but now he seems to be better! Some days are good and some not so good. But as long as he's still my boy and still wants to eat I'll do all I can do for him!

Thank you!
Penny

a busy week....

Mom had to go out of town last week. Her mom was having surgery, so she left us in the very capable and loving hands of our petsitter!

Mom lined up all of Perf's "medication"... She decided against chemotherapy for Perfy- he would be miserable! He hates getting pills and going to the vet! Mom says "hates" is being nice- he becomes a demon cat at the vet!

But mom is giving him pills! He gets his prednisolone two times a day then he's getting green tea extract, salmon oil and an American Indian remedy called ES-Clear: it's made of Burdock, Sheep Sorrel, Slippery Elm and Chinese Rhubarb. Mom doesn't know if these will work but she's willing to try as long as Perf tolerates everything.

Many thanks for the comments and support!

From Perf's Mom:

Thank you all!!! You comments have been overwhelming and I've read each one and each one has made me cry! Good tears because I'm realizing what a phenomenal community we are a somewhat silent member of, right now (all due to my job).

It's Friday around 9am and here is what I've decided so far:

I talked to my vet last night, after spending a day on the internet. I asked her exactly what would need to happen, from this point , if I wanted to go the Chemo route. She said Perf would need a biopsy of his intestines and lymph nodes and then he could see an oncologist since the Ultrasound is not a definitive diagnosis of Lymphoma. In my heart, I know it is. And I know my Perfy, he is not in the least bit cooperative, nice or docile at the vet. It stresses him out and he absolutley HATES going to the vet. After seeing the fur he lost and how stressed he was after the ultrasound, I dont want to subject him to surgery and then chemo at the vet, since it would entail going to the vet.

So I asked my vet about alternative medicines. She just recently got certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbs, so I felt I could start the conversation with her, since she is open to eastern medicine. I mentioned a botanical that I had found Neoplasene and she said she would do research (last night) a get back to me today.

I have gone ahead and put in an email to Dr Charles Loops who is an homeopathic vet based in NC who does telephone consultations and cancer treatments. I received the price for the initial consultation and will wait and see what my vet says today before I go ahead with the consultation with him.

He is still on prednisone and seems happy. He had a rough poop day yesterday! And today isn't starting off great-diarrhea! He sleeps my two older boys do sleep alot. He did play yesterday and ate ravenously so I am holding onto those positive signs!

I cant thank you all enough for your amazing support and for sharing your stories and your decisions with me! It helped so much hearing about each individual kitty-for they are all different!!!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

Not the best of news.....

From Perf's mom:

After much growling and hissing and very loud noises, Perfy had his ultrasound yesterday. But the news wasn't what I was hoping for. The ultrasound indicates he has GI Lymphoma. Now, this isn't a confirmed diagnosis. But all indications point to Lymphoma. I hate Cancer!

He was given a prescription of Prednisone yesterday, which he started last night. His bowel movements the past couple of days have been very loose-not all liquid, but a mixture of some form and liquid. He is still on his B12 injections, which I thought had been helping his poop. But maybe it was just me hoping it was IBD.

Where do we go from here???

Well, in order to even consider visiting an oncologist and starting chemo, he would have to have a confirmed diagnosis which would mean a biopsy of his lymph nodes and intestines or they could try to extract from the lymph nodes-but that might not work.

He is not good at the vet at all. Sometimes you have furbabies that dont make a sound and are as docile as ever when visiting the vet, Perfy isn't like that at all. He hisses and growls from the moment he goes in and has to be muzzled in order to do any tests. Is it fair to him to put him thru all the stress of surgery and then if they get a biospy without finding cancer riddling his body (this happened to the last cat that had lymphoma) and they wake him up-would he tolerate visiting the vet for chemo, and the chemo itself. None of these can be done at home, where he's a baby!

I called my vet today to ask all these questions and to also ask about any Chinese Herbal medicines that she thought we could try! I am all for Chinese Medicine. I also told her about a medicine that I had found in my all day search on the internet, Neoplasene. She's going to get back to me tomorrow.

To say I'm at a loss would be an understatement. I was in tears all last night and had a few glasses of wine. I knew that he would be the hard one if he needed any medical treatments. But now that the need is here, I want to do anything I can for him-but is it fair to put him thru such stressful events?

Right now I feel like the worlds worst cat mommy! I want him to live so much longer, but Lymphoma is horrible! Am I doing everything I can? Should I put him thru stressful events? I'm hoping I can try a Chinese medicine! That I can do at home and I would then feel like I'm not completely giving up!

I just had to write all this down...it helps clear my head.....

Thank you for listening.....

at the vet for my ultrasound...

Mom and I are sitting in the car. I have free roam if the car, the AC is on and mom brought my FAVORITE kittie treats, Temptations! She says we're here so that the travelling ultrasound lady vet can do an ultrasound of my tummy!

Mom and my vet thought it would be a good idea to stay in a place I know until they were ready for me! So we are sitting in my car! I know my car- has kitty toys, water and a soft place to sleep!

Hopefully the ultrasound lady will be here soon! I'm having the ultrasound because I'm still losing weight! My poop is better because of my B12 shots ( the vet stole my blood last week to check my cobalamine/folate levels and they didn't give my blood back!) now my vet wants to rule out something bad! So please cross your paws that the pictures of my insides are clean!!

Yep that meezer girl is here to stay! Mom gave her a name and she has her own bed! Mom said somehong about what's the difference between having 3 cats and 4 so we think it's officially! She is now a family member! But she makes alot more noise than all of us combined! We think she's using that to get mom's attention!!

So welcome Skye to our family!! This is the first Siamese mom has had since she was about 6 years old!

We are now a 4 cat and one dog house! That will make road trips fun!

She is healthy, so mom is "fostering" her until she finds a good home for her. hmmmm we seem to think she might turn into a permanent resident.....she's 3 years old and a Siamese mix...Mom says she is more vocal than all of us combined!! And she's been given a name! Skye because of her blue eyes...hmmmm we dont know what to think about this!
